Jason Derulo's "Swalla" Video Joined Youtube's View Billionaires
Here we go again, dear Youtube fans!
Only hours after announcing the latest member that joined Youtube's Billion View Club - Sia's "Cheap Thrills", now here's the news for another one.
Hands up for American singer Jason Derulo, rapper Nicky Minaj and singer Ty Dolla $ign's "Swalla", ya all!
The video just became the 96th member of the club by hitting 1 billion views on Youtube minutes ago and the second one to extend the club overnight!
A little bit of history first
Derulo was born on September 21st, 1989, in Florida, USA, in a family of Haitian parents, he started singing and writing songs at the age of 8 and his skills attracted attention from famous rappers at that time when he was a teenager. He released his debut single "Watcha Say" in August, 2009, and the song reached No. 1 in Billboard Hot 100 in November the same year.
Jason got famous with his hits "Wiggle", "Talk Dirty", "In My Head" and "Want To Want Me" later on.
Co-written by Jason Derulo, Ty Dolla $ign and Nicky Minaj theirselves, "Swalla" was released in February 2017 by Warner Bros Records as the lead single of Derulo's fifth studio album "777" and the video was uploaded on Youtube in mid-March, so it took 323 days for it to crack the major milestone of 1 billion views.
After the track's release, on the red carpet of the 59th Grammy Awards, Derulo shared:
"I never believe in forcing a collaboration. You know, I’m a fan of both of theirs and I thought that they fit the track perfectly. It’s one of those ones that’ll get you up and doing your thing. I feel like it’s gonna stick out on the radio. There’s nothing that sounds like it."
Although it's a part of Jason Derulo's album and he is the lead singer, many critics praise Nicky Minaj for her performance in the song. Joshua Espinoza of Complex, for example, wrote that "Jason and Ty handle their verses nicely, but Nicki is definitely the star", adding that the song "definitely has potential".
Anyway, the smash-hit is definitely slaying the charts and outsprinted even Pharell Williams' mega hit "Happy".
By the way few more videos are speeding fast and seem to be heading to join the Billion Views Club in the next few days. So stay tuned and sit tight, the club is getting really crowded!
